This event has ended.
The Kamigata Ukiyoe Museum presents Edo-era ukiyo-e prints made in Osaka, a style of ukiyo-e known to feature many characters. These works were influenced by Osaka’s Dotonbori area, home to several kabuki theaters. In kabuki, men play the roles of women. This exhibition focuses on the “onnagata” female roles, particularly those of “wives” in kabuki plays. Through ukiyo-e, it explores how the actors expressed the emotions of wives and mothers.
