This exhibition focuses on government-sponsored art competitions held in Tokyo, Seoul, Taipei, and Changchun— cities under the control of Japan during the first half of the 20th century. About 130 pieces including those presented at the competitions, as well as works by the judges, will introduce what “modernity” meant for these cities.
