This event has ended.

In dazzling kimonos with their hair in ornamental topknots and obi sashes tied around their wastes, the geisha of Kyoto were praised as “the culmination of artificial beauty”, attracting the attention of many admirers and becoming the subjects of paintings and films. The geishas’ clothing and accessories were crafted with the skills of many artisans, and the geisha also had numerous assistants who helped them perform their daily tasks. This exhibition focuses on the lives and activities of the people who worked behind-the-scenes in the geisha world.
