Jungho Oak is a Seoul-based artist attracting worldwide attention. He exhibited work at Seoul’s Leeum, Samsung Museum of Art in 2012 and participated in the Glenfiddich Residency Program in the UK in 2013. He produces photography and video, sometimes using his own body. Rich in humor but possessing a seriousness necessary for daily life, his works are elegantly expressed. In this video made during his residency in Scotland, Oak earnestly plays a game with a scarecrow through the practice of traditional Japanese kendo. The repetition of the game is humorous and absurd, yet it is projected on a grand scale amid nature and under beautiful skies. The attack of the swordsman is a comic performance of culture and aggression.
