This event has ended.

Who is Gabriele D’Annunzio? Today perhaps few people in Japan can answer this question. He was an Italian port, novelist and scriptwriter who during his life time enjoyed international acclaim, with his work being read across Europe and America. This year marks 150 years since his birth, and to mark this event in Italy special coins and stamps have been issued for the occasion. In Japan his influence was also felt upon writers such as Bin Ueda, Natsume Soseki, Ougai Mori, Ryunosuke Okutagawa and Chokoh Ikuta. Not only was he a celebrated writer, he also drew upon the latest ideas and customs in his work and formed his own particular style and fashion, while also following closely the developments of air flight and new technology, with a close interest in film, advertising and new media and the popular culture of the 20th century.
