Jōdo Shinshū (True Pure Land School) was founded during the Kamakura Period by Shinran (1173 to 1262). The advance into Harima Province began toward the latter part of the Muromachi Period under Honganji’ Temple’s 8th Monshu, Rennyo (1415 to 1499), who reshaped the sect’s foundation. A training hall, Aga Mido was constructed in Aga (Shikama-ku, Himeji-shi) to drive missionary activities and which developed into a center for Nenbutsu.
This exhibition presents the undercurrent of the Nenbutsu faith in Harima, and the diverse history of Jōdo Shinshū that developed there.
