The Yoshishima family began practicing the art of dantsu carpet weaving at the beginning of the Taisho period (1912), and continues to carry this torch of tradition. As the oldest handwoven carpets in Japan, they are valuable not only for their functional and decorative purposes, but also for their cultural significance.
