Akiko Higashihata + Akiko Matsui “(Almost) Starting Over”

Akiko Higashihata is an installation artist who draws upon her background in sculpture as she works across a wide variety of media. Her works include the creation of a huge clay jar in the gallery space which is then used as a screen for moving image and stills, and sculptures incorporating ready made bottles, containers and what appear to be her own plates. Akiko Matsui on the other hand creates large scale monochrome copperplate prints, mixing images of nature and the man-made, reality and fiction in a multilayered presence. In this exhibition the two artists place a focus on the small deviations which appear through repetition, in which flowing currents of reiteration arrive through a spiral effect to a continuous point of change.
