Marking the retired of respected nihonga artist Shinpe Sawano from Osaka Seikei University this exhibition features many of his major works, along with “Furnace”(1999) symbolizing one of his most intense periods of struggle, accompanied by the application of nihonga techniques to European landscapes as seen in the rows of houses in Matera, Italy. This exhibition celebrates Sawano as a researcher, artist and educator, through a body of work which reveals his wide career.
