First established in 1969 Tamura Gallery went through a number transformations as the New Tamura Gallery, the Komai Gallery, and finally closing in 2001 as the Maki-Tamura Gallery after building a long line of highly influential experimental exhibitions, with documents from its activities now being held in the collection of the National Art Center, Tokyo. This exhibition reflects on the role and legacy of this gallery and its owner Nobuo Yamagishi.
