Lyota Sakai “Semi-Automatic”
Antenna Media
This event has ended.
Presenting Lyota Sakai’s new series, “Assembler”, which refers to programing software that changes machine language designated by 0s and 1s into words easily understood by humans. These works feature arrangements of grids showing cities’ actual location-related information. Environmental data including terrain, population, traffic, and climate based on the location info is added to a system used to interchange images in logic diagrams. In addition to producing images established by the environmental data, this system uses standards determined by these values to create illustrations. While in conventional illustration there are no clear boundaries between the processes of “planning” (thinking) and “action” (drawing), in his “Assembler” series, Sakai has created a semi-automatic system that alternates the compilation of plans and automatic execution.
