Artist in residence Jay Kochel presents work in progress that researches ideas of atmosphere and metaphysical energies within Japanese culture. Jay has a particular interest in the aesthetics of traditional ritual practices of memorialisation and how these influence contemporary attitudes to space and materiality. Jay is currently documenting his time in Japan using processes such as photography, video, sound recording, 3D mapping and air sampling. He will present some of this research in his open studio along with an an installation piece that responds to his time in Japan.
