This event has ended.

Throughout the year, as the different seasons come and go, the scenery in Kyoto displays many different qualities: the vibrant drama of the mountains and rivers with the spirit of nature flowing between the trees, ordinary people going about their daily lives, and festivals and events at historical temples and shrines. The beautiful natural scenery and traditional culture of Kyoto combine to create a very special and much beloved atmosphere. Kyoto Prefecture has commissioned a series of paintings by artists with an association to the city in order to promote the beauty of Kyoto to a wider audience and pass on its heritage to future generations.

In the current exhibition is work by artists who have sensitively depicted Kyoto in spring and summer, selected from the “Four Seasons of Kyoto” series created in 1986 and the “Celebration of Life” series of 1992, which commemorated the 8th international conference for the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora held in Kyoto. The art conveys the charm of the changing seasons, from spring, when the trees bud, grass grows anew, and flowers bloom, to summer and its the delightful ambience.
