This event has ended.

Built 1200 years ago Kyoto is renowned as a city of historic architecture, but while caught in the throes of the bubble economy many of the traditional town houses were removed in order to make way for new construction. This is a loss which can never be replaced but in recent years there has emerged a growing revival of these old houses, becoming reused as restaurants and other businesses, continuing the life of these structures into the contemporary age. Toyoji Dei has taken the traditional town house as a motif for his collages for over a quarter of a century and continues to actively examine the aesthetics of everyday life in his role as professor of theDepartment of Apparel and Space Design at Kyoto Women’s University, in an ongoing attempt to bring forth new design through old traditions. This exhibition features his collages along with product design and proposals towards the aesthetics of living.
