The works of these eight up-and-coming artists embody Zeami and Senrikyu’s concept of “shuhari” (learning the rules like a professional so one can break them like a master). Each artist takes a unique approach to understanding the tea ceremony from the perspective of contemporary art, or, conversely, understanding contemporary art from the perspective of the tea ceremony.
