This event has ended.

Kirie (paper cutting) artist Toshinori creates his works by cutting black paper with a knife and pasting overlapping paper pieces of various colors onto the back. What he enjoys about kirie is “the unique lines created with each cutting.” The only condition he places on his work is that all of its parts be connected with the black base; except for this rule, his creative process is entirely free. He uses acrylic paints to color the paper, and some of his works use thick sheets of paper to bring out 3D elements such as spaces between people and walls. Italy is a major motif of his creations, and his “Italian Artisan Series” is his life’s work. It has been 11 years since he returned from Italy, but he continues to spend one month of each year in Florence visiting the studios of local artisans.
