This event has ended.

In the early 20th century, when very little was known about Tibet in Japan, Kozui Otani, the 22nd abbot of the Nishi Honganji Temple, led two young scholar monks, Bunkyo Aoki and Tokan Tada, on an expedition to Tibet in search of the living traditions of Buddhism. This exhibition showcases a pictorial biography of the sage Sakyamuni given to Tada by the 13th Dalai Lama (publically displayed in Kansai for the first time), an aerial map of Lhasa given to Aoki, and photographs of Tibet taken by Aoki. These artifacts, as well as elegant Buddha and Bodhisattva statues, introduce the world of Tibetan Buddhism.
