Sensation of Depth

This exhibition presents the work of Kyoto City University of Arts students and instructors who participated in a 2012 research course exploring the topic “sensation of depth.” Represented disciplines included sculpture, ceramics, Nihonga painting, philosophy, and astrophysics.

“The sensation of depth” is key concept of artistic expression found in all ages and cultures. While until now criticism has largely been limited to the spheres of iconography, socio-cultural history, intellectual history, and art, these researchers used modeling to explore fresh interpretations of works from the perspective of those actually creating them. Kyoto City University of Arts Gallery invites everyone to come see and think about the process and fruits of this research.
