This event has ended.

A major retrospective to commemorate the 50 years since the death of Hazan Itaya, a pioneer of modern Japanese ceramics. Hazan explored many possibilities of the ceramic form, including relief carved decoration. His fascination with light and its diffusion on ceramic forms led to his two important contributions, “saiji” and “hokosaiji”, a form of underglazing, when a ‘matt glaze’ is used to create a surface layer which appears as if coated with a semi-transparent film, to produce brilliant colours. These beautiful works are still appreciated to this day.
To give an insight into the work of Hazan, a full range of his ceramics and masterpieces, totaling 140 pieces, are exhibited, alongside data and research results from recent years.
