Takashi Nishiyama is a Japanese painter who is responsible for many illustrations in newspapers such as Asahi (The Koshien Tournament of Japanese High School Baseball), Mainichi (Sakunosuke Oda Prize serial novels), Kyoto (a serial novel; White Shirts in The Moonlights, Jan-Mar 1991). He is attracted by the way of living in the local towns he visits, where he makes paintings of the local markets, the morning fairs, and so on. Namikiri,Shima in Mie prefecture and Togakure in Shinshu area are his favorites, and he has continued to paint them since the early 1960’s. Nishiyama has held shows at Kiyamachi Gallery (Kyoto), Galerie Miyawaki (Kyoto), Sengoku Gallery (Tokyo), Art Salon Shiosagi (Osaka), Art Gallery Kitano etc., totalling over 111 exhibitions.
