Ikko Tanaka, a Nara native, was acclaimed as a master of contemporary graphic design the world over. His creativity was rooted in a familiarity with and refined a sense of Japanese traditional arts including calligraphy, drama, and tea ceremony, cultivated from a young age. This lineage runs through the aesthetics of his designs. Presenting works by Tanaka along with examples of traditional Japanese art that influenced him, this exhibition traces the evolution of beauty in his designs through diverse perspectives on the roots of his creativity, getting to the essence of his aesthetic within the context of Japanese cultural history.
