This event has ended.

The contemporary pursuit of “Japanese beauty” was alive and well during the Edo era, a time when new aesthetic principles still observable today rose out of the country’s period of seclusion. This series introduces contemporary artists who strive for this kind of Japanese beauty in their works. Part 2 of this “Japanese Modern” series presents works of three artists - lacquer artist Natsuki Kurimoto who uses the hood of a car as a medium for her work, Kazumasa Ohira - a ceramicist that explores beyond the constraints of conventional ceramics, and glass artist Kurumi Ishikawa - known in the United States for her “Kurumi Glass” range.
