This event has ended.

This exhibition shows a variety of fabrics produced using a dyeing system called “mokuakuhakkoudate”, which was established during the Edo Period. The characteristic of this system is the blend of ashes from trees with indigo and their natural fermentation. Kumiko Mori develops fabrics dyed in indigo that revive our modern life, and tries to convey her fascination of the traditional indigo to us.
On display are also fabrics of other colors such as madder with indigo, Japanese pagoda, unbarked lumber, dark red and more, following the examples of the colors which were invented and gained popularity in the Edo period.
