The Days of King Wakatakeru Okimi - in the Period of Maturity and Reformation in the Yamato Kingdom
Osaka Prefectural Chikatsu-Asuka Museum
This event has ended.
King Wakatakeru Okimi (Emperor Yuryaku), who is said to have played a vigorous part in the formative years of the Mozu・Furuichi Kofun Tumulus during the latter half of the 5th Century A.D., is well-known as a king who according to records, contributed to the strengthening of the Yamato autocracy. From the archaeological data, we see some regions terminate the construction of large tombs, while others began to build them, illustrating the many political changes throughout the country during this period. These changes seem to be a reflection of the assertive efforts to replace the older systems, and signifies an epoch-making movement.
This exhibition shows a large variety of data introducing the history of Wakatakeru Okimi, who accepted new technology or cultural activities from China and the Korean Peninsula and attempted to increase its power through the defeat of various powerful families.
