Shikokai is the oldest avant-garde ceramic group in Kyoto which was organized two years after the end of World War 2 in 1947, followed by the Soudeisya group which started one year later in 1948. Besides ceramics, this postwar period saw a rapid spread of “borderless” movements in the fields of painting, sculpture, photography, calligraphy and ikebana art.
