This event has ended.

We are holding an exhibition of the works of Nara-ken-born Japanese female painter Kokuyou Konishi, who is also one of the creators of Japanese Manyo paintings. The artist, whose real name was Fumiyo Konishi, studied under Seison Maeda and Ikuo Hirayama whilst going to school at Athénée Français in Tokyo to learn the teaching of foreign languages. Her work was first chosen for a prize in 1948 at the 33rd exhibition of the Japan Academy of Fine Arts, and she continued to submit her work to the same exhibition, winning prizes in 1953 and 1973. In this exhibition, we look back at her work through 50 examples, focusing on the works she submitted to the spring exhibition of the Japan Academy of Fine Arts, as well as her preliminary sketchwork.
