This event has ended.

Presenting works from the collection of Shunsui Sumitomo, an architect of the Sumitomo Group conglomerate in the Meiji and Taisho eras, on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of his birth. Sumitomo collected Chinese cultural artifacts, oil paintings, and modern arts and crafts from Japan and around the world, displaying them in his Kobe estate. Unfortunately this museum-like home featuring a unique blend of traditional tea and literary arts with international works imbuing a Western perspective was destroyed in a fire in 1945. This exhibition recreates this Sumitomo’s estate with art from his legendary collection, recognizing his aesthetic eye and cultural contributions.
