This event has ended.

The western sea route that connected western Japan to the Hokkaido, Tohoku, and Hokuriku regions was a major thoroughfare for the flow of goods in Japan. Kitamaebune were ships that operated on this route. In a collaboration between the Museums of History in Niigata and Hyogo Prefectures, this exhibition shows the diversity of materials from Hokkaido to the Hyogo Prefecture towns of Harima and Tajima. The significance of the Kitamaebune ships is shown through descriptions of the ship owners, their commercial activities, the goods carried by these ships, and the ports that they visited.
