Once every five years, China holds a national art exhibition presenting around 600 works chosen from tens of thousands submitted from across the country. After a display at the National Art Museum of China in Beijing, a select few are shown on tour in Japan, Korea, America, and Europe. The Nara Prefectural Museum features around 76 of these works ranging from traditional Chinese paintings, lacquer paintings, and oil paintings to prints, watercolors, pastels, sculptures, and animation. The startling realism these works is what stands out in the 12th show.
