The Battle of Sekigahara

This event has ended.

The “Grand Sekigahara exhibition” celebrates the 400th anniversary of the passing of Ieyasu Tokugawa, and is the ultimate exhibition about the Battle of Sekigahara, held on a record-breaking scale in three museums nationwide, namely the Edo-Tokyo Museum, the Museum of Kyoto and the Fukuoka City Museum. The Battle of Sekigahara was the epic battle that took place on September 15th 1600 and was the largest battle of the Sengoku period. What caused the Battle, and what was the outcome? And how did it affect the world afterwards? We look at the overall picture of the Battle with examples of weapons and armor belonging to warriors who took part, documents that convey the tense atmosphere of the time, and paintings of the Battle. The powerful nature of the Battle is also recreated fully in a Georama and through projection mapping, showing the lay of the land, the changes in weather and the movements of the feudal lords. Also, around 200 important artefacts will be on display, including Important Cultural Assets of the seated wooden statue of Ieyasu Tokugawa and “Karamono Katatsuki Chaire Meihatsuhana O-meibutsu”, owned by the Tokugawa Memorial Foundation and displayed in public in Kyoto for the first time.
