In Osaka’s Dotombori area in the Edo period, there stood a row of Kabuki and other theaters giving rise to the phrase “once you arrive in Osaka, you will surely find yourself spending at least few days in theatres.” This exhibit presents Ukiyo-e prints featuring scenes with sake. People can be seen drinking sake at kabuki plays, making charming displays of drunkenness, and exchanging each other’s cups of sake to express their ties to each other.
