Japanese folklore consists of a wide variety of “Yokai” - bizarre monsters or supernatural beings which have been immortalised through collections of tales such as Konjaku Monogatari, written during the late Heian period. The expansion of this culture from the aristocrats to the masses gave birth to many supernatural creations, some of which are now on show at the this exhibition.
