Commemorating the 50th anniversary of the death of Tamesaburo Yamamoto (1893-1966), the first president of Asahi Breweries, Asahi Beer Oyamazaki Villa Museum is holding an exhibition of the Mikuni-so, the Mingei (folk crafts)-style house owned by Mr. Yamamoto, who was an enthusiastic supporter of the Mingei Movement.
In 1928, Soetsu Yanagi (1889-1961) and his partners presented a pavilion display of the Mingei-kan (Mingei House) to demonstrate their ideas on living space for the first time. After the exhibition, Mr. Yamamoto bought the house and reconstructed it on his premises in the Mikuni area of Osaka, renaming it Mikuni-so. This exhibition showcases works from the collection donated by the Yamamoto family and previously used at the Mikuni-so. The interior is recreated in the gallery to reconsider its historical/aesthetic meaning, as well as to uncover the story of the remarkable house.
