This event has ended.

The Nijo Castle 400th Anniversary Gallery was completed in March 2004 and opened on the 10th of October, 2005 to permanently preserve the original Ninomaru screen paintings. In commemoration of the 10th anniversation of this opening, paintings from the Ohiroma Ni-no-ma Matsu “Kujaku-zu” and the Ohiroma Yon-no-ma “Matsu-Taka-zu” are exhibited.
The Ohiroma Ni-no-ma contains a painting of a large pine and an auspicious peacock in the Ni-no-ma. There are drawings of an eagle and two hawks in the Ohiroma Yon-no-ma. This is the most famous screen in the Ninomaru Palace. Probably because these heroic birds of prey were thought to display the qualities of the shogun. A giant pine and a mountain torrent are also displayed. When the shogun visited Kyoto, it is said that this room is where his weapons were kept.
