Seiichi Shibata “New Works”
Gallery Yamaki Fine Art
This event has ended.
For this show Shibata will present his new works based on familiar elements such as people, animals and scenery. Shibata has been keeping his eyes on incidents similar to a series of child murders close to his home in Kobe when he was twelve. This incident had a strong influence on his life and perspective. Furthermore, living in the same city and the transition to having his own family has led his interest towards the anxiety which creeps into everyday life and his feeling of resentment towards evil. Evil itself cannot be judged or eliminated, and to express such an abstract subject with variety, depth, and three dimensions, Shibata works in diverse media: paper cuttings, woodcuts, papier mache, and painting. Bringing together his previous and his new developing works, this is a comprehensive and ambitious exhibition.
