Satoshi Someya “Mukei-no-Asobi”

Someya draws “pop” motifs on lacquered wood with a traditional Japanese decorating technique including maki-e gold lacquer, raden mother-of-pearl inlaying, and chin-kin engraving with powdered gold. Through these decorations, Someya tries to express his inner world with Japanese traditional materials. In this exhibition, Someya shows 15 new works using different kinds of material such as stones, rusted iron, and tree branches. Someya’s “playful” imagination transforms these ordinary objects into “unformed” art works.
