This event has ended.

Kodomo no Tomo was a magazine for children first published in 1914 by husband-wife team Motoko and Kiichi Hani, who also established the publishing company, Fujin no Tomo. Each edition of the magazine featured works by notable artists including Rakuten Kitazawa, who is said to be the first professional manga artist, Takeo Takei, who is known as the first generation of painter specializing in portraying children, and Tomoyoshi Murayama. It was widely supported by children.
This exhibition, featuring original paintings from these artists, showcases the artistic quality of Kodomo no Tomo, and also provides insights into social changes through the modernization of art for children as seen in pictorial magazines. The exhibition also introduces visitors to children’s culture from the Taisho to Showa periods.
