What is Raku? Discovering Raku
Raku Museum
This event has ended.
This exhibition entitled “Discorving Raku” showcases the origin of Raku teabowls, from historical and technical viewpoints through a simple didactic explanation.
Some of the features of the exhibition include a Black Raku low-cylindrical teabowl named Okinoshima by Raku Chojiro I, a Black Raku low-cylindrical teabowl named Furuike by Raku Sonyu V, a Red Raku low-cylindrical teabowl named Sai’I by Raku Kakunyu XIV, and more - all of which are associated with and evocative of summer.
The answers to the questions often asked by the public, and in this summer exhibition particularly by the younger audience, on why and how the Raku tradition has been handed over in a manner as it has been over the last 450 years is provided. Even though this exhibition is oriented for children accompanied by parents, it is comprehensive enough and full of enough interesting content to appeal to visitors of all ages.
