This event has ended.

Celebrating the 20th anniversary of Asahi Beer Oyamazaki Villa Museum of Art, this exhibition displays ceramic masterpieces from all over the world, collected by Tamesaburo Yamamoto (1893-1966), the first president of Asahi Breweries, and works of artists supported by Yamamoto, revealing his sense of beauty and contribution to arts and culture.
Soestsu Yanagi (1889-1961), the leader of the Mingei Movement, re-evaluated traditional folk crafts which were fading away as society rapidly modernized. Sympathizing with Yanagi, Yamamoto passionately supported the movement and collected ‘unknown’ old ceramics from the Middle East and Eastern Europe, as well as popular pieces from China and the Netherlands. Yamamoto discovered a new beauty from these antiques and tirelessly encouraged artists in his generation, such as Kanjiro Kawai (1890-1966) and Shoji Hamada(1894-1978), who created modern forms inspired by traditional objects.
