This event has ended.

Junko Ishiro focuses on memories of travel scenes as motifs in her paintings, combining frenetic colors and forms with imagery from her trips on the canvas. Within her memory these landscapes gain momentum as they move and morph, springing from her hand to life as “moving paintings.” Ishiro is also known for using masking tape to create margins with slight shadows, as if adding – or perhaps propagating – missing elements of scenes she deliberately shows within their edges. At her 2010 show “Growing Shadows” she presented paintings featuring shadows that seemed to move about freely, and her first solo exhibition in six years continues with this theme of imagery.
