This event has ended.

Presenting “Five Stone Pillars in Black Granite,” new works by sculptor Jun Yamazoe. Yamazoe does not approach his stone blocks with any specific lines or shapes in mind, only a hazy notion that a certain form exists within it. He uses chiseling tools to sculpt his pieces, relying on machinery as little as possible. This process of pure physical action is a sort of call-and-response with his own premonitions, a dialogue between Yamazoe and the stone material. The forms that he produces, which can be called neither abstract nor concrete, give representation to the space between the artist’s body and mind, as if the stones are crying out in irregular voices through Yamazoe as a medium. Perhaps these are the “certain forms” that he refers to. Experience the breathtaking presence of these black granite figures, each more than one meter tall, chiseled with the innumerable marks that are a trademark of Yamazoe’s creative process.
