Ryuta Otake combines acrylics and transparent materials in his uniquely layered paintings. While his first show at Sunaba Gallery exhibited works starring beautiful female anime characters, “Spider on Orbits” presents paintings of mysterious landscapes from other planets. The meaning of the title is unclear, but conjures up a planet with gravity made from spider webs. These strangely layered worlds evoke the pull of desire and a sense of levitation with mysterious messages for the viewer.
