While there is much about the Constitution in the news these days, Imai’s new works are not a debate on Article 9. Created with a letterpress printing machine, a modern relic, Imai’s difficult-to-read rendering of Article 9 is not meant to be “interpreted,” but simply “viewed” as a subject. A call and response between past and present arises as repetition leads to transformation. Opening our eyes and ears, the present is revealed.
