The Museum of Modern Art, Shiga is currently preparing for its renewal in March 2020. Following the renewal, there will be three new collection focuses relating to the theme “The Beauties of Shiga.” One of these is the Arts of Buddhism. Since 1961, the Museum of Shiga Prefecture, Biwako-Bunkakan has collected and exhibited works such as deposited treasures from local shrines and temples. Unfortunately, this museum has been closed since 2008 due to structural issues. The new museum will continue the legacy of the Biwako-Bunkakan through the exploration, display, and study of its treasures. The upcoming exhibition features 75 works including one National Treasure and 19 Important Cultural Properties. This exhibition will celebrate the legacy of Biwako-Bunkakan and the future of the new museum.
