From temple festivals to city shows drawing captivated crowds, Japan has a long history of many kinds of public spectacles, from handicraft fairs to juggling and acrobatics to animal performances. This exhibition looks back on special events such as these held during the Edo, Meiji, Showa, and Heisei eras with artifacts including painted signs, Nishiki-e colored prints, ceremony decorations, dolls, and more.
