This event has ended.

In the roughly 50 years between the Sino-Japanese War and the end of WWII, Japan invaded China and was defeated in this war of aggression. How did Japan and China perceive each other, and how did the rest of the world look at these two nations during this time?

Postcards are among the historical documents that can shed light on events such as the Sino-Japanese War, the Russo-Japanese War, the Boxer Rebellion, the Twenty-One Demands, the Paris Peace Conference, the Mukden Incident, and the Second Sino-Japanese War. For the first time in Japan, the Kyoto Museum for World Peace Ritsumeikan University presents postcards from the world-class collection of Donald Lappnau. Kimonos and furoshiki wrapping cloths with wartime motifs, war-era communications materials, and other items are also featured in this exhibition presenting an opportunity to reconsider the relationship between Japan and China, one that is still full of complications.
