This event has ended.

This year marks the 100th anniversary of Nihonga painter Kansetsu Hashimoto (1833–1945) moving to Hakusasonso villa following its first construction in 1916. After Hashimoto’s death, fellow artist Keika Kanashima (1892–1974) acted as a guardian of the Hashimoto Family estate, preserving and exhibiting Hashimoto’s work, as well as compiling and publishing a collection of Hashimoto’s sketches. Around 40 works by both of these artists are on display with the cooperation of the Hanatori Ozuka Museum of Art. Presenting early works by two artists who broadened the scope of Kyoto-style painting during the Meiji through Showa eras, this exhibition is the first in a series about Modern Kyoto Nihonga Artists.
