Sadaharu Horio first became involved in the leading postwar art movement Gutai in 1966. Since 1985 he has continued his “Atarimae no Koto” (A Matter of Course) series attempting to express “presence” invisible to the eye but that undoubtedly exists. While examining the continuity of time, he visualizes both the seen and the unseen, drawing lines of extension from everyday life to existence as both a “void” and an “abyss.”
