Building Shrines For Shadows is Johanpeter Hol’s sixth solo exhibition at Studio J. His works are rooted in human contradictions, such as the loneliness one can feel while surrounded by others, which speaks to the solitude at the heart of human existence. Hol also observes that while we all have shadows whether we’d like to or not, there’s not way for us to grasp their original shapes, if we reach out our arms to do so. The subjects he explores are serious, but his works never fail to display a light-hearted, pop-like charm. In this show he presents ceramics created during a two-month stay in Jiangxi, China.
