This event has ended.
This is an exhibition which commemorates the 40th anniversary of the death of the potter, Shoji Hamada (1894-1978). Shoji Hamada created numerous energetic pieces based on everyday life. He also significantly influenced Japanese modern crafts by starting and promoting the Mingei Movement with Soetsu Yanagi (1889-1961). His work is still highly valued, even 40 years after his death. To pay tribute to more than 50 years of friendship between Hamada and Tamesaburo Yamamoto (1893-1966), the first president of Asahi Breweries, this exhibition showcases Hamada’s works received mostly from the Yamamoto Collection which was previously donated to Asahi Beer Oyamazaki Villa Museum of Art.
